Here are all the guys before heading into the chilly Pacific:
I wanted to get a family picture of us this way, but Mister was having way too much fun splashing around with his cousin to pay us any attention. So here we are with just Pumpkin:
This was Pumpkin's first time at the beach. I don't think he enjoyed himself too much. He kept getting sand everywhere and didn't have a crib to nap in. He was a great trooper though. He was a little harder to entertain than normal, but he was still a happy, happy boy. I'm sure he'll like it better when he can walk around and get filthy like his brother. :)
Speaking of filthy, may I present Mister in all his beach grime glory. How this happened I have no idea. Normally he's really particular about keeping clean..... That went out the window yesterday. He even put up a fight when I tried to wipe some of the mud and sand off his face. Is this a new trend? We'll see.
After getting his face and hands so filthy, I guess he decided "why stop there?" So here he is with his cousin (they're the same age, and Mister LOVES playing with him) having splashing races. They both ended up soaked from the chest down.
After a day of playing so hard, this is where he ended up, trying to warm back up and wait for the guys to finish surfing. We had a great day and loved being able to take the boys out for a day of fun on the coast.

It looks like you guys had a lot of fun. Isn't the beach just great?!
Oh my goodness Marissa- I can't believe you guys were in jeans and sweats! We were in swim suits and lots of sunscreen!!! I'm mad that our pool closed on Monday for the season- it's still in the 90s!!! :)
Those boys are WAY brave to brave the cold Oregon waters!
I love the beach...we didn't go enough this year!
Thanks for your comment on my kids! It was SO sweet! I don't have a secret persay to encouraging reading. But, this is what I think helped. I read to Lowden ALL the time when he was little. Everyday at least for 30 minutes. Reading aloud is the best way to encourage reading to little kids because they can listen on a higher level than they could possibly read themselves. Also, I loved The Read Aloud Handbook by Jim Trelease. I read it for Children's Literature at BYU and it was a really helpful resource. It is a great guide to GOOD read alouds because not everything is a great book to read that way. Here is a link for his website and good picture books http://www.trelease-on-reading.com/rah-treasury-pic1.html
Also, I go to the library all the time. Our library lets you request online and put the books on hold for free. That way I can browse online and pick up what I want. Lowden often tells me what books he wants to request and I will do that real quick online for him. The library emails me when they come in. It's SO great! Also, it helped to keep track of what books they read this summer. I didn't have a reward persay but something about writing it down was encouraging to them. Anyway, I hope that helps!
