It's About Time!

Well, dear bloggers. The day has finally come. It's been nearly 5 months in the making but today is the day Scott finally started his new job. Scott has been wanting to be a State Farm insurance agent for a while now, but we never felt like it was the right time. The whole process started back in November when he took their aptitude test and passed. We then decided to go to their career understanding seminar to find out more about how to go about being an agent and if it was something we even wanted to pursue. We decided that we really did want to do it, so an interview and one killer business plan later Scott was notified that he is now an "approved candidate." All that really means is that now he gets weekly emails about openings all over the country and he is eligible to apply for those agency openings. He's been talking to lots of agents in the area and one thing they told him across the board was that working in another agent's office first was really helpful and if they didn't do that, they all said they wished they had before going out on their own. So Scott is working for a local agent here in town (yay, no commute across the river!) to really learn the ropes and learn how a successful agency is run. He really likes the man he's working for and is really excited about this opportunity.

Scott's status as an "approved candidate" lasts for two years. Once an opening comes up that we are interested in, we're going to apply for it. Yes, that means we might move sometime in the not-too-distant future, but we're just rolling with the punches. Of course we'd love to stay where we are, but the reality is that there is no guarantee that something will open up here, and if it does, there's always stiff competition for this area's openings because so many people want to be here. I am a total planner so this is really hard for me. I need the security of a plan A and a plan B (just in case) but with our situation, it's more like having plans A, B, C, D, E and F which feels entirely overwhelming, so I'm just tyring not to think about it and enjoy each day as it comes. I tried planning out the different scenarios and ended up getting things all mixed up and confused, so I'm not even going to try anymore. Yes, that's right. You all heard it here first - I'm willingly relinquishing my need for control over my life and its path to the uncertainty we've waded into, hoping that the waves carry us to good things instead of dashing us on the rocks. We'll keep you posted.

But for tonight, we're going to enjoy Scott's return to the workforce with a bottle of sparkling cider and a Trailblazers game. Followed by my trashy reality TV loves "The Bachelor" and "True Beauty" which Scott alway balks at and makes snide remarks about, but will always sit there and watch anyway, just because he loves me and wants to be with me. I love my husband. :)
