Pumpkin Knows His ABCs

Ok, so let me start by saying that I have video proof of this feat but for some reason cannot upload it to either the blog or my facebook account. It's too big for the blog, so I might try to capture a shorter version, but it's well within the facebook limits so I don't know what's going on.

Anyway, Pumpkin is showing off his smarts these days. It all started about 2 weeks ago when we were walking and he noticed some letters painted on the curb. He stooped down to point them out to me. He said "D" a few times and when I went to look, sure enough, he was pointing to a D. "Just a coincidence," I thought to myself since I hadn't taught him anything about letters yet. Then he proceeded to point out the S and sure enough, got it right.

Then whenever we were at home he was pointing to any letters he could find asking what they were. Now he can correctly identify all the (upper case) letters of the alphabet! I'm so surprised by this because Mister didn't learn his ABCs this well until he was 3, closer to 4. But you can't fool Pumpkin. Even when we drive around town, he's in his carseat pointing out all the letters on the signs that he sees. It's pretty mind-blowing actually. To hear him in his tiny baby voice correctly identifiying letters all over town. So now that he has the capital letters down, I guess it's time to work on the lower case ones. Numbers maybe? I guess I need to get him some flashcards for Christmas. This kid is just so eager to learn it's crazy. When Mister was this age he just wanted to play - he couldn't be bothered to learn flashcards or letters or anything until he was at least 2 1/2, and even then he wasn't that interested. Now he loves to learn and actually looks forward to preschool and our own "learning time" that we have at home. But not when he was Pumpkin's age.

Anyway, I don't want to sound like I'm bragging or anything, I am just so surprised by this and so proud of my baby and I wanted to share. Interesting how 2 boys can have the same parents and be so different. Not just in this way, but in pretty much all other ways too. It's perfect - they're different but complimentary. Like peanut butter and jelly. :)

I was so amazed at Thanksgiving when he could say all the letters on the water bottle! What a little smarty pants.

It was so great seeing you and the boys last week!

Wow, that is early for knowing your ABC'S but it probably helps having an older brother. He is adorable though, I love that picture.

I'll bet it helps to have an older brother.... always trying to one up him. I'm probably the reason that David is so smart. Ha ha!
