On our drive home, the boys were getting a little restless, so we decided to take a side trip to a waterfall that's on the way home. It was a welcome break from the monotony of the drive. Poor Mister wore out the batteries on his portable DVD player not too long into the trip, so he was itching for some action.
My husband had the idea that we should hike to the top of the waterfall, which I thought sounded lovely. It'd give the boys a chance to get some fresh air and we'd all get to stretch our legs a bit. Unfortunately, having never been there before, I thought by saying we were going to the top, I thought Scott meant that we were going to the top point that I could see from the ground level, which was a bridge, not too far up a walkway. It sounded pleasant and doable. Well, when we got up there I realized that we weren't at the top, as the trail continued. Apparently it's a mile-long trail, rising up 800 feet in elevation. With a 3 year old who was quickly starting to tire and the baby in the Baby Bjorn, I was doubtful we should continue. Scott insisted it wasn't too far and wasn't a bad walk, so we pressed on. I gave Mister a piggy-back for as long as I could while Scott wore Pumpkin in the carrier. It didn't take long for me to be "glistening" with the effort, so then Scott started to carry Mister as well, just so I wouldn't turn around and go back down the mountain (I call it that because it was NOT a hill). I mean, look at how steep this "hill" was!
We finally made it to the top and really enjoyed the view. We hung out up there for a while to feed Pumpkin, rest our legs and let Mister get up close to the pools up top. The first picture on this post is of us when we reached the top. This is Mister and me at the top as well.
The way back down was much easier than the way up. Mister rode on Scott's shoulders all the way down and I carried Pumpkin in the Bjorn. Boy is he heavy!
Here we are at the bottom after our hike. I was happy to be done, believe me. But after being done, I realized that for all my complaining on the way up, it was worth the effort. We created a great memory with our boys and it was so much better than sitting in a car! Plus we got precious pictures to show for it. :)

Those pictures are beautiful. I was just thinking the other day that we needs to find places to go hiking around here. Maybe we'll have to get both our families together for that.
So maybe your formal portrait sitting was a fiasco, but the family picture on the mountain is AWESOME!!! Christmas card material right there! :)
Glad your ankle isn't bothering you too terribly. I really like your hair too -did you color it darker recently? I always remembered you with highlights. Anywho I reallylike it.
