I love sports. Pretty much any sport. Especially during the Olympics when I get to watch all sorts of sports that are otherwise never on tv. I love all the skiing, luge, bobsleigh, track, beach volleyball, gymnastics, swimming, diving, figure skating, and yes, even curling. But I especially love to watch football (why other countries never picked up on this I have no idea) and basketball. I often remind my husband of how lucky he is to have a wife who will actually request to watch a game on tv or happily sit through multiple episodes of SportsCenter just to make sure I didn't miss anything good.
Anyway, we went to a Trailblazers game with some friends last week and during the opening part where they announce the players on the home team, they have this really cool music and a jumbo-tron display of the player in the rain with thunder and lightning sounding (appropriate for our neck of the woods, I thought). I was so excited and I loved the intro part so much I actually got the chills. Is that normal? That I get chills for a sporting event? It's not like this was an isolated incident either. Sunday is my favorite day of the week for a few reasons. Church and Sunday Night Football. I know, I know..... But when Faith Hill starts singing that intro to the football game it's the same response - I totally get the chills, I'm so excited to watch the game. Some of my favorite movies are sports themed. "Miracle" is one of my all-time favorites, and I don't even like hockey that much. There is just something about the physicall skill and mental toughness that athletes need to have that I find inspiring and exhilirating.
So anyway, I was just wondering if there are other girls like me out there.

I just took off my stilettos, hung up my cute clutch, wiped off my makeup, and yakked in the trashcan! Marissa, Marissa, Marissa...
Haha, I really do hope Scott realizes how darn lucky he is! The one and only (and I mean ONLY) time I get excited over football is when my Gamecocks play Clemson- and even then, it's not a pretty sight. During the game last Saturday, I pretty much misunderstood every play, argued with the ref when I should have agreed because it was a good call for our team, and asked Kiel 1,000,000 questions such as "wait, who has the ball?" and "why is he running INTO the group of players?"
This is why we are ghetto and have two tv's hooked up in the living room; one is on mute with sports and the other is on loud and clear with (anything else?) FOOD NETWORK!
Yes, my dear, you are a rare commodity for sure. I lost my love of sports so many years ago because I have no vested interest in any particular team; pro or college. Lucky Scott indeed!
I must be the LUCKIEST woman on Earth because I have a husband who has ZERO interest in watching sports on tv. I DO miss my IU basketball games and only get to watch a few, but I count my blessings when Dave wants to play video games or watch some sci-fi movie because both events are way shorter than non-stop sports!
Maris - I've got your back on this one. You know how much I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE sports. And you know it's true love when I'm willing to sit through 40 baseball games IN ONE SEASON in cold, damp PacBell Park (or whatever it's called now). I also love to play them. I mean, why else would I be running at night in the hills with a headlamp in the fog? Or why would I endure 55F water to get my diving certification? Or float around in shark infested water off the coast of SF just to catch that elusive wave? Yup, I'm right there with you babe.... The others just don't realize what they're missing out on.
Oh don't get me wrong- I LOVE sports! Playing sports, going to sporting events, etc. But on TV?!?! Maybe because I'm not the biggest TV fan to begin with!
Give me a beer, a ballgame, and a brat and I'm one happy camper. I'll watch ANY live sport glady- hence why I would sit on the sidelines at 9am on Saturdays in 30-degree weather to watch Kiel play flag football!
