Let Us Eat Lettuce!

We are really excited about how well our garden is growing these days. Unfortunately our zucchini, red peppers and jalapenos are total busts (we're going to try again with starts this time) but our other ventures have proven to be very successful so far. We have 4 tomato plants (MORE than enough for our small family, I'm told), one cilantro plant and a ton of radishes. But wait, let's talk about the lettuce...... For some reason Scott thought that we needed to plant 16 (yes, that's right, 16!) lettuce plants. And now we have lettuce coming out of our ears. I just harvested it all today and it'll need to be harvested again by Saturday. And in the meantime we have 2 big gallon-bags STUFFED with lettuce that we need to eat by Saturday so we can make room for the next round. I've never eaten so much lettuce in my whole life, but fortunately it tastes much better straight out of the garden than it does from the store (and potentially from hundreds of miles away). Although, if I grow big long ears, buck teeth and start twitching my nose, I'm going to draw the line and cut myself off..... So if you live nearby and need some lettuce for a salad or something, we have plenty to share. :)

The plants look beautiful! We would love some lettuce. I will pick some up on Saturday.

Oh YUM! I wish we lived close to you all! (And, not just for the lettuce.) Our neighbor, Leslie, had a ton of great lettuce last year, so at lunch time we would go over to her yard and cut some for lunch and then go back again for dinner - with her permission of course! And, you are right, it does taste so much better than the stuff from the store!

That's so cool! That's one of the things we really want to get into once we're back in Oregon. It's hard trying to grow ANYTHING in the Florida sand!!!

Awesome! Nothing beats making a sandwich or salad with veggies you just pull from the garden.
