Northwest Boys and A Day on the River

You can sure tell that our boys were born and raised in the Pacific Northwest. I myself am a California transplant, but having lived here for 7 (?!) years now already I feel like a local. I no longer use umbrellas when it's raining (something that horrified me when I first moved here) and I don't even bother with a raincoat unless it's really coming down. Yesterday evening my boys proved to me how un-native I actually am though. Scott was changing the oil in both of our cars (he's handy like that) and the boys of course wanted to be out there watching and learning too. I wanted them to come inside when it started pouring, but they both threw absolute fits at not being able to be outside, so I just put raincoats on them and sent them on their way. Fortunately it was a warm, humid summer shower, so I didn't feel too terribly guilty letting Mister go out in just a raincoat and underwear (he literally refuses to wear clothes when we're at home) and both of them were barefoot. But really, even having lived here for 7 years, I'd still never go stand in the pouring rain willingly. Even warm summer rain. Nope, I guess I'm still a California girl deep down..... But my boys are pure Pacific Northwest!

Today Scott's office took the afternoon off and rented a party boat for the office workers and their spouses. It was so great to get out and enjoy that time on the river and the boats. I love chatting with Scott's co-workers and I was excited to be able to chat with them all day without worrying about distracting them from work or anything. It was a bummer that in the middle of August it happened to be cloudy and cool, especially with the wind blowing down the river, but fortunately we all remembered fleeces so it wasn't too bad. They had also rented jet-skis and a ski boat, but I didn't want to get wet in the already cold weather, so I just contented myself with enjoying the rides. Scott braved the water and tried surfing (literally, he surfed the wake behind the boat - I'd never seen that before) and then showed off his wakeboarding skills. He bit it pretty good a few times, which was pretty comical to watch (though probably less enjoyable to experience first hand).

Yes, the boys are Northwesterners all the way! The photo is so cute. I hope the boys pick up the love of the outdoor and sports from their Dad...that could make for may good times together for them all.

Scott is so sporty! It is a good thing you have two boys for him to teach all of those fun sports things to!

Okay Scott- it's one thing to stand outside during a rain shower but it's quite another to CHANGE THE OIL when it's raining- wow, talk about dedication!!!! :)

Your river trip looked like a ton of fun- and where was that 100+ degree weather when you needed it?!?!

We would love to be out running in the rain too. The massive lightning bolts keep us inside though. The girls refuse clothing in the house too. How funny!
