Last weekend (yes, I know I'm running behind on the posts here) we went to the Waterfront Park with my mom for a little fun in the sun and to let the boys ride the rides. It was the most beautiful day of the year so far (which will soon be eclipsed by tomorrow and Sunday's weather, if the weatherman is to be belived) and we were dying to soak up a little vitamin D.
The fair rides were a complete rip off, but the boys thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Too bad they didn't have the all-you-can-ride bracelets we can get at our own county fair in August. This was the first year that Pumpkin was old enough and (just barely) tall enough to ride the rides. He had a blast but did NOT enjoy me taking him off of them at the end. More reason to look forward to all-you-can-ride bracelets so we can avoid this in August.
Mister was in hog heaven. He loves to ride all the kiddie rides, but last year he started to branch out to the bigger adult rides too. There are quite a few that he can ride as long as he's with an adult. Unfortunately, Scott was the designated adult on many of these rides and he has a weak stomach when it comes to the spinny rides. Coincidentally, Mister's favorites. Of course.
He loved the tiger roller coaster.
We had a ridiculously overpriced lunch that was topped off by the world's most expensive elephant ear (but boy, was it delish!). The boys had never had an elephant ear before and I tried to explain it to them like it was a flat doughnut with sugar and cinnamon on it. Pumpkin didn't care what it was, he dove right in and got totally sticky. Mister was hung up on the name and it took him a looooong time to warm up to eating something called an "elephant ear", no matter how I tried to make it sound delicious. He took a bite and decided he didn't like it. I couldn't tell if he really didn't like it or if he was still worried that he might be eating an ACTUAL elephant's ear. But this is the same kid who won't eat ice cream either, so who knows what goes on in that head sometimes. Oh well, more for me. :)
Just outside the fairgrounds area they had a great splashpad for the kids to cool down on this warm day. The only thing that marred the fun was the inordinate amount of plumber cracks (I know that's not that pc, but oh well) on display. I mean really, did their mothers not see this as a problem? Anyway, we thought it was pretty funny, eventhough we swore that would never be our kids. Hahaha. :)
