Snow Days

We've been enjoying a cold spell here in the Northwest lately. The news anchors have dubbed it "Arctic Blast 2008" which makes me laugh because all those people in the Midwest and the Northeast would call our "Arctic Blast" a mild snow day in November - not even full winter for them. It's amazing how a little snow and ice can shut down the entire metro area. We woke up to a ton of snow this morning and we wanted to get Mister outside to play and build a snowmand. We waited until Pumpkin went down for a nap to get out because he's got a cold and we didn't want to make it worse for him. Anyway, Mister loved playing in the snow. Although, after he took off his gloves (it warmed up a lot and the snow started melting when we got outside) he didn't want to help Scott put the last ball on the snowman.

We're not big snowman makers, so we had to improvise for his features. We broke of a few twigs from a dormant bush and scoured the yard for a few rocks we could use as eyes. The nose and mouth are made of the fluffy stuff on the ends of those dormant twigs. Not a traditional snowman, but we tried our best. :)

Mister made good use out of his beach toys for this backyard outing. His shovel and bucket were never far from his side.

And what snow day would be complete without a snowball fight? Scott and Mister had a lot of fun together lobbing snowballs at each other. Check out Mister's determined face here:

And here he is dodging one of Scott's snowballs:

Our dogs loved being outside with us. You'd think they'd gone to heaven being able to run around and plow through the snow. When Bruno's face gets all wet the hair lays flat and he looks more like a rat than a dog, but we still love him to pieces. He's cuter when he's dry. :)

We had a tennis ball out there to play fetch with them, but Belle especially liked going after the snowballs that she could crunch in her mouth. Here are some fun action shots of her going up for the snowballs thrown her way.

We had a great time outside, but eventually the sun went back behind the clouds and the wind picked up, so we headed back inside. But we did enjoy the snow and the yard for a good hour before we had to call it quits. I'm off to make some hot chocolate and curl up with a book under a blanket for the next few minutes before Pumpkin wakes up from his nap and wants to play.

How fun! I'm glad you guys were able to enjoy the snow- down here it has been just enough to make driving stressful, but not enough to have any fun in.

I too was having a laugh at the title Arctic Blast 2008; come on people!

Dogs and snow are a funny combination. Roobin has spent most of his snow time licking different patches of it, and eating frozen kibble that we'd strewn about the yard. It looks like your pups know how to have a good time!

Looks like a lot of fun. Our snow on Sunday wasn't very good for making snowmen snowballs were about as good as we could get. The boys had fun throwing snowballs and each other and Seth. Sadly it's been melting here and the kids haven't made their snowman yet. They're quite bummed. We're hoping for a little more snow tonight so we can build a snowman. It's amazing how we don't live that far from each other, but the weather can differ so much. We didn't get any snow that stuck today, but it looks like you guys sure did.

Your snowman looks a lot better than ours. I wish I had a picture to show you but I'll let your imagination create it in your head as I describe HER. The snow was too dry to roll so we had to build a snowwoman that was laying down. Of course, we'll call all these ideas Mika's but it turned out to be a sunbathing snowwomen who somehow didn't get any bottoms. Dalynn wouldn't let me use her swimwear... In the end Barbara...that was our snowwomen lay lounging in the wyoming sun with a magazine, sunglasses and a scarf to cover her boosom. Your snowman is definatly more family blogger friendly.

Happy New Year 2009... Scott, Marissa, Arden, Anders....
Looks like everyone had a 'fun'filled' snow day. Especially Mister. I like your snowman Arden. Good Job! We had snow here in Kansas 3 times already. Think of you often!
Love,
Grandma Wanda
