My sister Kristen came into town this weekend to look for a wedding dress and for restaurants to have her wedding dinner. She and her fiance Brian don't want a traditional reception or dancing or music or anything. They just want it to be small and intimate with family and a few good friends and just get together and have fun and enjoy each other's company. Which is perfect for them - I think it would be weird if they did anything over the top. So yesterday we went to this great shop in a boutique-y part of the city where Kristen found the most beautiful dress. It's totally her - beautiful but simple and no train. It's a small shop and all the material is from India, but it's all fair-trade material so that made Kristen especially happy. She's very conscientious about things like that (her ring has non-conflict diamonds) which I think is awesome. She didn't end up buying it yet, but it was so breathtaking on her I literally got all misty-eyed and got the chills. I promised her I wouldn't cry though, so I managed to hold it together. But misty eyes don't count as crying, so I was ok. :)
We then ate lunch at a Peruvian restaurant which has the best food I think I've ever tasted. It sounds weird, but it was DIVINE! Their food was astoundingly wonderful. I had no idea what to expect, but I was blown away. I brought home a bunch of it for Scott and the boys to have for lunch tomorrow. One of the dishes is cheese -stuffed yucca which is something Scott ate a lot of on his mission (but they called it Mandioca there) and you should've seen the look of pleasure on his face when he bit into that first bite. :) Scott was so wonderful to take the boys, literally all day today. I had such a wonderful time with my sister and my mom and my aunt Martha scoping out restaurants' private dining areas and dress shopping. We found the most beautiful restaurant that is right down on the water in the downtown that only charges a food and beverage minimum but doesn't require you to rent out the space. I guess in California where she originally wanted to get married, they were charging her $4,000 just to rent the space - not including the food or drinks or anything! Isn't that the craziest thing you've ever heard?! I guess that's really common in California though. But we all fell in love with this place by the river and had such a wonderful time imagining what it would be like to have their wedding dinner there.
After we were done we went back to my parents' house and Scott met us there with the boys. I really am SOOOOO grateful to him for watching the boys ALL DAY LONG (I left the house before 9am) for me, and filling in for me at the Primary activity so I could spend all day with my mom, sister and aunt. He was so wonderful about it too - just told me to have fun and not worry about a thing. He didn't complain at all either. He just did it so graciously and I'm so thankful to have him for a husband.
By about 8:00 the boys were losing it at my parents' house though (way past bedtime) so we had to cut the night short. I had the best girl's day I've had in a long time with them. Thanks for making it so special Mom, Kristen, Auntie and of course Scott! :)

Aww, thanks! I had a great time being with everyone too! And I totally agree, that Peruvian place was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. Please tell Scott (again) that I think he's the cat's meow for letting you be mommy-free for the day. I'm so very glad you were able to join us for the Saturday adventures. Yay!
Oh man... I am so jealous. I wish I lived closer so I could have joined in on the fun! Miss you guys!
PS - I can share recipes if you need them, just let me know!
I had a wonderful time showing everyone around. There was not a single dress that Kristen tried on that did not look terrific on her! She let us all choose at least one dress for her to try on so to up the fun factor, Marissa and Martha chose these over the top fu-fu dresses that swallowed her up. It was funny to see. The food was indeed amazing as usual. And the locations we scouted are so 'Kristen and Brian'...they will be happy no matter which location they finally choose. Thanks Scott, for enabling Marissa to join us for the entire day!
What a Fun Day You must have had! Girl's Days are so Great! I am so excited for Kristin & Brian! Tell Scott Hi from Us & that I am so Proud of Him for taking Care of the Boys all Day so You could Enjoy!
I'm the same way with the conflict-free diamonds... Kiel and I watched Blood Diamond last year and afterwards I looked at him and said "you know, I don't even WANT a diamond ring anymore...I don't need it". Little did I know that put him in a panic because he had already ordered my ring! Thankfully, he was able to point out the "conflict-free guarantee" on its certification, so I kept it! :)
Girls nights are the best. And it sounds like your was great.
