Week at the Coast

We spent the past week at the beautiful Oregon coast with my Dad and step-mom Liz. While the weatherman had predicted sunny skies and warm temps, we were victims of the inaccuracies his kind are famous for. It was blustery and chilly, but we still managed to have a wonderful time and make some amazing memories. The boys just adored their Grandma and Grandpa, Pumpkin so much that he bawled when they had to say goodbye at the airport. :(

We went to a local lighthouse one day but unfortunately they had a height requirement to go in for the tour. Grandma and Grandpa scaled the 105 steps to the top with Mister (who I'm told did excellent with the stairs) while Scott and I stayed outside to play catch with Pumpkin. We were playing with a little shark he'd gotten from a kids meal, which made his favorite game extra fun.

The coast was uncharacteristically cold so we didn't actually spend much time at the beach during this trip. We made two trips, but the boys were bundled up most of the time and the second day was so miserable we left after less than two hours. Scott got some surfing in, Dad and Liz got to enjoy walks in the sand and the boys enjoyed making sand castles and splashing in the little pools of (much warmer) water up on the sand.

We made a visit to the Oregon Coast Aquarium while we were there and it was a hit for everyone. The boys were absolutely fascinated by all the sea life. They especially loved the friendly seals and sea lions who put on a great show for the spectators at the windows. The touch pools were a huge hit with Pumpkin, not so much with Mister (although he did venture a cautious touch with a starfish with Grandma's help).

When we weren't out having fun we had a great time just hanging out at our condo. It was right on the ocean and we were even able to see a few whales from our windows while we were there. It was so relaxing to just sit and stare at the waves and fall asleep (and wake up) to the sound of them.

We stayed up later than we wanted to every night playing games, chatting, eating sweets until our stomachs hurt, having laughing attacks, and just creating wonderful memories together. Thanks Dad and Liz for making an effort to come all the way out here for a vacation with us. We love you so much and had a wonderful time with you!

Marissa, I am so glad you all had a wonderful time. No matter what the weather, I know the boys always have a great time with family members.

Sounds like you guys had fun. That's too bad about the weather! It should be a rule that all beaches are warm!
